All useful feedback. Thanks! On a couple of points...

The project is suited to the need of the client, in this case a journalist.
For him it seems OS is the most reasonable way to go. We charge for the
general facility of his website and provide the blog as an easily
maintainable add-on. This saves both time and maintenance whilst allowing
long term upkeep of his blog, which could last for years.

A search facility is essential. Can't imagine a blog without search.

In other situations, such as for myself, a complete design may be more
approriate. I'd like to have a bash at RoR too but haven't the time for now.

I'm hoping to come to a conclusion on this today or tomorrow. For now I must
go out so will respond later. No flaming, err vexatious negative debate, in
the meantime!!
