RE: FN-FORUM: Mac vs PC

It seems very strange to suggest a Mac is better than a PC because it gets
less viruses, as if this is some inbuilt feature of Mac OS. It is simply
that there is a far smaller proportion of Mac users out there, and therefore
a far smaller base of viruses. Are you really going to buy a computer for
that reason?
Mac and PC are about parallel in usability and reliability if you are
willing to invest the time and effort to maintain them both in terms of
hardware and software. There is a wide range of software available on both,
and running most graphic design applications (Illustrator, Photoshop, Quark,
InDesign), will run equally on both platforms.
I have never experienced any nonsense from printers who want a file to have
originated from a Mac. An illustrator file is an illustrator file, on a Mac
or PC, and printers are generally very accommodating anyway (if not, find a
better one!).
Of course the Mac designs are appealing to some people, and some PC designs
will be appealing to others. So you could make a purchase on this subjective
basis perhaps. Love the design of Mac OSX but want a PC? - well maybe
running ObjectDock on WinXP might be an idea.
This is such an age old debate, and really leads nowhere expect for an inbox
full of tired argument.
Got money? Buy both. Otherwise pick what you're most familiar with.
Best Regards,
Richard.
