FN-FORUM: IT support advice
date posted 23rd January 2006 12:43
Need some IT advice.
Got a PC that of a friend that is over time consistently producing a similar
Blue screen on Boot errors after a couple of weeks of working without
problems then suddenly they get a missing system file error on boot and
continued blue screens.
Basically they say they have not made any changes to the PC from my
barebones install only used Word and browsed the Internet.
This will be the third time in 2 months I'll have re-installed their PC, all
that is getting installed is Windows XP home, Office 2003, Norton internet
Security 2006, and a few drivers for ADSL etc etc and everything is up to
date as far as service packs etc, a full virus scan has been done and the
NAV & firewall is resident.
I have done a full diagnosis of the HDD with a tool from the manufacturer
and done a full sector overwrite "Low level format" of the drive so it is
not an issue with the HDD drive AFAICT. I've even insisted they get a UPS to
make sure it is not blackouts or power fluctuations causing data corruption.
My next thoughts are that it is a hardware issue with the Motherboard which
may be causing the corruptions. But I just don't have the time or setup
(Test bench and spares) to replace parts to see if it makes a difference.
Can anyone recommend my next course of action?
Regards
Sam Morgan
