Not particularly helpful to you but a few months ago had the opposite
problem of internal pages on one site having higher PR than the main
page which is ununusual.
I think that was due to incoming links from high PR sites pointing to my
internal pages.
It kind of balanced out on the last google update.
At a guess I would have thought good on site indexing would help you a
bit. Have you got a sitemap?
