I think if you get something from them stating, address of property, how
much they are offering, and any extras or conditions then that should do it.
However it isn't legally binding until you exchange contracts.
There is a good basic book called House Buying, Selling and Conveyancing
published by Lawpack, which is a good starter, and has a lot of useful info
that anyone buying or selling a house should know. We used this book and a
couple of other books to do our own conveyancing a couple of years back.

Not sure if anyone has come across this but if selling your house
privately and you get an offer do you have to get a simple letter saying
they have made an offer or anything? Googling is chucking up load of
