Don't do it without some money in the bank and a plan.
I didn't have either and am still paying for it!
Also be sure you're ready for not having any holidays for a while and
little social life.You will have to work hard & long to make a place for
yourself in the market before you can work (more) sensible hours. I've
yet to meet anyone who started freelancing and worked 9-5, 5 days per week.
Make sure the wife understands! ;)
Not trying to scare you off, just be realistic.
