I agree. That's exactly what "multipart: alternative" is for. All HTML
e-mails should contain a plaintext alternative part as best practice. It's
not difficult, but is often overlooked.
HTML-only e-mails are often looked at with suspicion by spam filters too,
because of the ease with which spam can be disguised in HTML messages
(white text on white background, tiny fonts, text with charaters in table
cells, etc.).
If all e-mail was plain text, spam would be very easy to filter out.
