FN-FORUM: New Freelancer - Fees
date posted 1st May 2006 15:42
Hello all,
I've just signed up to freelancers.net and put my current profile up:
http://richardlewis.freelancers.net/
I'm brand new to working as a freelance programmer and I have a couple
of questions.
I'm mainly interested in doing jobs that take a few days or maybe weeks
which I can mix with my ongoing casual work at the UEA (detailed in my
profile). For this casual work I'm paid a (small!) hourly rate which I
negotiated with my employer when I started working for him immediately
after finishing my degree.
I've been having a look around the available projects on freelancers.net
and feel that I could probably make a good job of some of them. However,
I haven't registered an interest with any of the clients yet because
they all ask the freelancer to detail their required fee.
Now, I'm brand new to this and really have no idea how I should work out
fees for projects or what sort of prices employers expect to pay. Can
anyone give me some advice on how much I should charge for projects? Do
freelancers normally estimate hours and charge an hourly rate? Or do
they work on some other scale like complexity?
Thanks for your help.
