FN-FORUM: Background colour in maps

Hi, I'm making a map for an image:
















This is all working fine, but I am wondering whether I can put a background
colour in the rectangles. So, for example, I'd have a red image as a
background and I'd make every other rectangle white to make a chequered
pattern or something like that.
