FN-FORUM: Hardware help

I am trying to cobble together a working PC for my daughter. I have her old
hard drive, cd drive, monitor, mouse etc, and a second hand case with a
motherboard in it. Her case is wrecked and keeps powering off for no
reason..I think there are a lot of loose connections!
I have put in the hard drive, cd drive, and keyboard etc
All seems to be going ok except for the monitor (from her old PC) when
connected up now only gives the option of 2 or 16 colours, and is all
blocky, as it would be I guess with only 16 colours.
I have looked on google, as when I was fiddling about I got the out of
frequency error a few times. I got rid of that but the colours still only
work in 2 or 16. Any help greatly appreciated...hardware is really not my
'thing'!
