OK
Do you have a power light on the lcd - if not check the fuse or (Is it
switched on? sorry to ask that one)
if you do then do a complete switch off and back on again and check the
brightness buttons on the screen
Is the desktop wireless - if it is then boot it up and see if you can
connect to it from the laptop - if you can then you should be able to
transfer files (that is if they have previously been shared on the network)
If none of this works - try borrowing a screen or failing that take the
hard drive out and put it into one of those external hard drive cases
and then plug it into your laptop.Or you could call me if you live in
