Yeah, I've been on Microsoft Update for a while, but Windows Defender still
tries to update itself, although I'm certain the Windows Defender updates
you get from Microsoft Update should work.
The update through Defender keeps failing so I'm wondering if the site it's
trying to use is blocked

Microsoft have started microsoftupdate in addition to windowsupdate and I've
set mine to update through this. I'm on site so cant give you a URL from my
base machine.
