On this topic, I have a pay as you go mobile on Virgin network and
signal coverage seems poor.

which is the best network for signal strength and coverage and how
hard is it to switch to a different pay as you go account?

I hardly use the phone as I rarely go mobile, but it would be nice if
it actually worked at home as well as in the street! - signal here is
one bar at best - dangling upside down in one room of the house waving
it to send a text is not how I thought it would be....
