FN-FORUM: Possible legal problems - further update.
date posted 27th June 2006 20:31
For those that have been following this little story so far, it's about
to get interesting.
The company that had expressed an interest in buying my clients company
came back with an offer two days ago....
They do not wish to go ahead with the purchase of the company... They do
want to buy the software I have developed for it.
Now it's going to get very confusing, we are once again thrust into the
issue of code ownership etc..
Basically they have offered £50k for a license for the software and want
to buy a few months of my time at the going rate to tailor it to their
needs. They also want to rent the MD of the company to do some product
development work in tandem with my project.
So now I guess the arguing will start, 50k isn't a lot of food to go
around and quite frankly I've done 99% of the work on this software, I
don't see any reason why my clients company should benefit to any great
level from it.
But of course, they will argue that they put this deal together so are
entitled to something. I really do wish this opportunity hadn't come
along, I hate stuff like this. I will quite happily take less money if I
can find an amicable way to resolve this, unfortunately the chairman is
being obstinate (we had a falling out some time ago so we don't get
along too well these days) and insisting they own the software and I
should be thankful if they give me a few crumbs as a thankyou (not his
exact words but the same taste).
So any advice?
