Well done France! Cedric will be happy.
However, some of us are not so happy about Andrew Wilson's comment.
I'm English and have lived in Scotland for more than thirty years - in more
recent years spending time in China too. I've lots of Scots friends and more
than a bit of knowledge about Scots generally.
What English people generally do not seem to realise, though awareness is
growing, is that a vast number of Scots HATE the English with a nastiness,
deviousness and venom that's barely fathomable. Of all Scots I've come
across these last weeks the majority of them wanted any team playing England
to win. There have been celebrations here in Edinburgh at England's loss.
On Mr Wilson's comment about Rooney's sending off, I think that was probably
deserved - marginally, more for dissent than the foul. Given that he tussled
with three players who gave him at least as much aggro I thought it was a
bit unfortunate. The Laddie's young.
More astonishing was Beckham's early departure after his calf muscle was
stamped upon soon after half time. It seemed, to me anyway, that the
take-out was deliberate to get Beckham out the game. That, assuming Beckam
would have scored his penalty kick, could have been the deciding factor
along with having to play with ten men. It would have otherwise been
reasonable to card Rooney rather than send him off. However, that's what
happens in football and the game's done.
More importantly, for Mr Wilson to then take the opportunity in a clearly
anti-English bit of opportunism on his part is wholly wrong. Wrong as a
matter of ethics, wrong in that it was racialist in nature and wrong for the
general well-being of this list. We have already been commented upon in
another list. And as for Scotland being another country - it isn't! Not in
law, realm or international recognition. For those that don't know it,
Scotland joined the Union after it effectively became bankrupt as the result
of over-greedy pursuits against other nations some 300 years ago. Scotland
chose to become part of the UK and the majority here choose that it should
remain so.
Andrew, you should apologise for your conduct and posts on this matter.
And as for any English folk who are a bit irked by all this, let's try not
to stoop to the level that so many Scots seem to revel in. Murray's possibly
as belligerent and arrogant as any (didn't he also say he was against
England?) but he's British so come on Murray - win Wimbledon!
Mike A.
