FN-FORUM: Win XP Forcing IRQ's
date posted 1st September 2006 00:12
Hi Again, twice in one day..... Does anyone have any wisdom on how to
force XP's hand on its IRQ selections. I want to use a highish bandwidth
device (8 track audio interface) via a firewire carbus card on my IBM
laptop. XP seems to chuck 'uncle tom cobley and all' onto IRQ 11. The
real culprits are the video and the cardbus/firewire controller. The
maker of the audio interface says it will never work sharing an IRQ with
the video. I've tried the BIOS settings but XP ignores them. If I bung
W2K on the machine the video is on IRQ 11 and the Cardbus is on IRQ 9,
but when I load the proper video driver the video ends up on IRQ 9 as
well. Arghh.
Loading the XP Standard PC HAL (as some audio fora suggest) rather than
the ACPI one makes it blue screen on boot - stop 50. Friendly - not.
Any ideas. Other than getting a soldering iron out on the laptops
internal IRQ wiring......
Thanks
Ken
