contribute, IMO, should only be given to clients in order for them to update text/images on their site. Its a simple, inexpensive alternative to building a proper CMS backend but it has alot of limit...

I think personally you shouldn't do a thing for the so-called new owner
until you have written confirmation from your client that the website has
been sold and provides the details of the new owner...
