FN-FORUM: Old client sold website without informing me

As many of you will know I came back from the festive break to find a
client had sold a website I designed for them along with the business he
ran alongside it.

I am now finding that they sold the website through ebay and the new
owner cannot get any response from them. All I got myself was a quick
email less than a hour before the new owner got in touch. I have now
been put into a position where I appear to be the new owner's sole
contact. I am becoming increasingly angry about this for two reasons,
firstly I'm getting the flack for something that has nothing to do with
me and secondly I feel that it was out of order for the previous owner
to merely pass my details on when selling the site (in other words
making me part of the sale).

When I produced the website there was no contract between the two of us
and he didn't bother to discuss the sale with me. I feel justified in
saying I want nothing to do with it and walk away.

My question to all you fine people is what would you do in my situation?
