RE: FN-FORUM: Old client sold website without informing me
date posted 3rd January 2007 12:29
Michelle,
Maybe it's my paranoia, but if the new owner can't get in touch with the =
old owner (who sold it) and you're the sole contact, how do you know =
it's all legitimate?
What would happen if the new owner asked you to transfer the domain and =
asked for a copy of all the source (moved hosting whatever), then once =
the dust settled, the old owner comes along and claims no responsibility =
for the sale and holds you responsible for the loss of the site. =
Worrying thought!
Also there would be charges (granted small) associated with changing the =
owner of the domain/s - I would have thought this would be the =
responsibility of the old owner to pay.
I'd insist you had it in writing from the old owner (not email). Both =
the EBay sale and clarification email could all be spoofed (yes, it's =
extremely unlikely, but there are some bored people out there with too =
much time on their hands).
You may have answered these issues in a previous post that I missed.
Hope these thoughts are somewhat helpful!!!
Peter.

Thanks to both of you, you've calmed me down.
If the whole business element of it (which is the main problem) is =
sorted out then I would be happy to carry on with the website =
maintenance. We shall see what happens!!
Thanks again
Michelle
