I think personally you shouldn't do a thing for the so-called new owner
until you have written confirmation from your client that the website has
been sold and provides the details of the new owner.

Until then, I wouldn't touch it.

All the crap going on with the sale etc has basically got nothing to do with
you, so wipte your hands of it and do without the stress unless your client
gives you that confirmation letter (can be an email)

Thats simple enough for him to do and until that time, I would refuse to
touch it or even alter a word.
