John, dvd studio pro is fine, you just need to change some of the
settings. Adjust the data rate, this is the bit that can cause
flicker...

Did you go into computer manager -> Disc Managemanet and see if the disk is
detected there? Also go into system manager -> Hardware -> Device Manager
and down to discs and see if it's listed there....

Might just be that the HDD isnt being detected by windows properly.
try going in to control panel, then admin tools, then computer management and finally click the disc management icon on the left....
