Thanks Dave,

The server is behind a Cisco firewall so the packet filter policy isn't
assigned.

I've also checked the settings for the firewall. UDP on port 53 is =
allowed.
I'm wondering if it's worth adding port 53 on TCP too.

The weird thing is nothing has changed recently. Payment gateways on =
several
sites started timing out at about 16:00 yesterday afternoon. I've been
working all day switching URLs over to IP addresses. This isn=92t the =
best
solution because some servers are running multiple sites on one IP =
address
but has got some angry clients off my back.

I've tried querying the 1&1 name servers from my server using nslookup. =
I
receive the message 'DNS request timed out'. However, using the name =
server
you have listed (212.227.38.250), nslookup works fine!

I have tried to change the DNS servers in the 'Internet Protocol (TCP/IP
Properties' dialog box, however receive the error message 'The =
combination
of IP address and subnet mask in invalid. All of the bits in the host
address portion of the ip address are set to 1. Please enter a valid
combination of IP address and subnet mask'.

My settings are:

IP Address: 212.227.xx.xx
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.255
Gateway: 10.255.255.1

Preferred DNS: 195.20.224.99
Alternate DNS: 195.20.224.234

Can anyone help?

Thanks, Dominic
