Re: FN-FORUM: SBS2003 VPN Setup (again as no response)

You only need to forward port 1723, as Charles says and probably tick a
box called VPN or PPTP pass-through (although Netgear docs suggest that
you need to open 500 as well, even for PPTP..???). Many routers don't
allow loopback so you have to test if from another connection, so you
are not trying to go out through the router and back in again. I use my
mobile as a modem for that sort of thing (123-reg have an 0845 number
dial-up with no username or password, as do others)
It's easier with 2 NICS, but possible without, but make sure that server
is wired to router not wireless and also make sure you told the SBS
wizard that you had broadband, not a router. Router means not a
permanent connection.
What are you using to test it?

Hi,
That's what I though (and sorry Kathy I didn't see anything before will
check back)
The router is a DG834PN - I've set the firewall to route all VPN traffic
to the server.
What I don't know (or can't work out) is if the traffic is actually
getting to the server or if it's getting "lost en-route" the router
seems to be logging VPN traffic from the remote host but that's as far
as I can get - I'd like to know if it's getting to the server or not.
Cheers
Andy

No you don't need two network cards!!
I've setup this very same scenario on 3 SBS2003 installs.
You need to forward port 1723 to you SBS 2003 server, make sure you have
run the Routing and Remote Access setup ..
What Netgear Router is it? Most will just work with out having to
forward GRE...
If you want me to take a look, you could install
