RE: FN-FORUM: slow file copy

Ooop, ignore that blank email !
The SBS machines can't see each other - they're on separate domains and
are on different sub-nets (192.168.0 and 192.168.16)
The tera is on 192.168.0.250 and it all works speedily onto it from both
my laptop (on iwd2.local) and the SBS server (which is the iwd2.local
SBS server).
Now...
If I move the tera off onto the .16 subnet then I can't see it from the
iwd2.local SBS server when it's referecned as \\iwd2-tera-1 but I can
ping it (as you'd expect).
When it's on the .16 subnet, the other server on bowhead.local can see
it and will attempt to copy stuff from it but it then craps out half way
through. I've even tried a direct network cable connection to it and
whilst that will let it complete the copy it still runs horribly slowly.
I'm still pretty sure that it's a network configuration issue because
when I was setting up the bowhead.local machine I wanted to copy onto it
from elsewhere and that copy process was really really slow as well.
I'm loathed to try anything like another network card as it's a standard
machine - HP ML360 G5 box, brand new so really the drivers etc., all
ought to work absolutely fine.
I'm going to try connecting a PC to it directly logging into it's domain
to see if it's definitely an authentication thing or if it's network.
What a pain !
Cheers
Andy

Can the SBS machines see each other somehow?
What authentication to the tera?

I've done that but to no avail...
I might go round and do them again but I don't understand why it's doing
it on one machine and not another. There's SBS Server installed on 2
machines on the LAN (in total, different sub-nets) and they just need to
share the tera as a back-up destination.

Re SMB signing stuff, look for the article on slow copying from XP for
the SBS settings (it's in group policy).

Hi,
I'm having real trouble with copying files over a 1gb network to a
Buffallo terastation. I think though it's actually the SBS2003 install
which is causing the problem. I've read various articles on disabling
SMB as the terastation doesn't support it and I don't really need it but
it's all still running slow.
The server is an HP ML360 G5 1U rack job. 2.0ghz Xeon with 2mb running
SBS2003. I've got the latest network drivers for it just in case that
was the problem but it's still very very slow.
The terastation is just on a workgroup not the domain.
I've another SBS2003 server (different domain) also connected to it and
it runs at full tilt, as does copying from my laptop.
HELP !!!!!!!!!!
Cheers
Andy
