Hiya,
Yep I'm a flexhead.
Flex won't improve the latency. In fact, if anything it'll extend it as
it's fatter middleware than most.
I'm presuming the logic behind the assumption it may be quicker is due
to the page refreshing in normal HTML? If so It'll certainly be no
quicker than using AJAX. In any case, a request is a request - you can't
make it go any quicker!
Best bet is to make sure the server has good peering. Make sure it's in
a Tier1 ISP. Not much more you can do other than that.
