I believe that Konqueror has a problem if you use 'position' with 'top/bottom' or 'left/right' missing. Other browsers assume zero for the missing property, but Konqueror doesn't seem to. Try filli...

Thanks for all of your feedback, I found it useful. the general consensus seems to be that I should try to improve the contrast between the text and image, so I'll give that a whirl over the next coup...
