RE: FN-FORUM: Mentoring (was: Programmers)

To get back to the mentoring, and if there should be a separate list of
mentors etc, (and without purposefully name dropping) a couple of years ago
I was working for the Skunworks department of Ordnance survey (part of R&D
ish) and discussing this very thing with a couple of Oracle consultants.
They mentioned as part of their Oracle Consultant training, they spend their
first six months being mentored by senior consultants, whilst working on
voluntary projects?
I suppose this brings me to the point, or a seed of an idea. I occasionally
get asked, and work on charity and school website (including intranets) this
is voluntary work with no pay or kudos. Would this be a great place to
mentor people who are willing to go and find these projects. Not only would
they gain experience, build up a portfolio and get exposure whilst helping
out where they can. Not quite a sandbox, but they should be past that stage
anyway?
And if anyone is listening - I'm more than happy to help someone who has
gone out there way to find these types of projects to build up their
portfolio.
And yes trying to keep as much help on forum where it's appropriate (just in
case I screw up!)
