Luckily I'm not actually interested, particularly, in the actual map
images. All I'm worried about is whether my cycling routes site needs an
OS license to display people's routes (some of which may have been
manually traced from an OS map, and many have been manually traced from
the Google Maps API maps).

Any other site that uses Google Maps for input of UK locations, and which
then displays those points publicly, would also seem to require some OS
license or other. I bet you none of them do.
