Full stop is not wrong.
Dr Persson or Dr. Persson
i.e. or i.e.,
The 'comma' is to me essential as the dot doesn't mean end of the
sentence (not always anyway).

Strange. Thirty years ago, we always put in the full stops after
abbreviations (e.g., i.e., Mr.). It wasn't until the mid-80s that we
started using block layout and dropping the full stops. Never had...
