FN-FORUM: Flash or CSS/XHTML AJAX
date posted 14th June 2007 11:23
Hello everyone,
I need to create a couple of product configurator type web applications
for an existing client and I can't decide whether I should build them
entirely in Flash/ActionScript or whether to use CSS/XHTML/AJAX to
build the application "pages" with object oriented PHP and MySQL on the
server side using session vars to maintain state.
There are some animated sequences required to show how the products
work, so there will be some Flash elements included however I decide to
build the project.
I have done some fairly complex stuff with Flash in the past but my
skills are a bit rusty as I've not done any serious projects for a
couple of years. On the other hand I am using CSS XHTML PHP and MySQL
every day so I would be up to speed immediately if I go down that
route.
I am also concerned about usability especially as the target audience
for these products is primarily older people so even if I use Flash
I'll be sticking with familiar user interface elements.
What do others think? Flash or CSS/XHTML/AJAX?
Best regards,
Ray
