RE: FN-FORUM: Transferring domain names
date posted 25th June 2007 17:30
Hi Martin,
It should be relatively straightforward to do - there is an excellent PDF file available from www.godaddy.com, which shows how this is normally done.
There are a few things you need to do - one is to find out if the domain name that needs to be transferred is under the "ownership" of your contact - i.e. are they registered to use it? If they are, I would recommend moving it to an independent registrar (e.g. godaddy.com) - most of the work is done by them, but they will send out emails to whoever concerned, to ask for their permission to transfer.Provided they are OK with this, and acknowledge as such, then it should be relatively painless.
Otherwise it should be a matter of following the instructions provided by godaddy.com - it requires reregistering the name again for another year, but as it is a US site, it may well be cheaper! I seem to remember there being sites on the net which give out promo codes to get discount - do a search for this online.
HTH,
Alex.
Someone is asking me how to do this - I did it once years ago and it was a
pain
They have bought a new webspace
The old one is 123-reg
I am under the impression if they log into the 123-reg control panel, they
can modify the domain so that it points to the new webspace
I found an article saying that this is done by changing the IPS tag - but do
you also need to alter the nameservers ?
thanks
