RE: FN-FORUM: FW: ADH WebCreations

Hi Ashley,

I've had a look at your website - admittedly since you have made some
changes, as I have been at work all day, so have only just seen your =
site. I
have some comments which you may find useful:

1. I think the comments re. colours is right - the whole site comes =
across
as being very blue (I mean this in the colour sense, and not anything
else!). Blue is one of the colours which causes problems for people with =
any
colour blindness conditions (if that makes sense) - how about adding in =
a
couple of other colours, to help balance out the cold feel of the site =
at
present? Have a look at www.ndesign-studio.com, which is a really good =
site
by a guy based in Toronto, Canada. It is full of colour; whilst I don't
expect you to go to the same extremes, it would be nicer to have some
additional colour in there.

2. On your Portfolio page, there are 2 things you could do which would
really lift it - look at Lightbox JS version 2
(http://www.huddletogether.com/projects/lightbox2/), which is a JS/CSS
gallery system which is VERY easy to add, and will give your site some =
much
needed dynamism. I would also left-justify all of your notes against =
each
design (i.e. what you did for each), and align it so that it is better
spaced out, as some go over the images). The whole page needs to be =
spaced
out better, as it feels very cramped at present.

3. Your banner at the top - whilst I can see the attraction, and that it =
is
not designed to be something which would cause a problem if it were not =
to
be displayed, still lacks something: it does not come across as being =
very
exciting, and seems to just merge into the page with everything else. I
would look to vary the background colour of the whole page, and add a =
border
to the flash banner, so that we can tell it is a flash banner - apart =
from
anything else!

4. Your menu system...is very long! I am not sure if this really looks =
as
good as it could be - I think it would look better if you could slim =
this
down into something a little more concise. Is there any need to offer =
all of
your services from 1 menu? Or could you just say "Services", and have an
appropriate link from this to your services page?

5. Your contact details - they are all stuck down at the bottom of the =
page,
which is just out of reach, meaning the client has to scroll down to =
view
all of it. I would have thought these were the most important part, and =
that
these need to made more prominent elsewhere on each page? I am also not =
sure
about the validation logos - whilst it is nice to show that you follow
standards and are writing code which is standards compliant, do you =
still
need to show it as a logo? It means that people will notice to seeing =
this
logo, check it, and woe betide you if they find your code does not
comply...I think it is far better to do something similar to what a =
Toronto
based designer did: check out www.ndesign-studio.com. His XHTML and CSS
compliancy logos are minimal, to say the least!

Finally - your CSS; have you checked it to see if you cannot remove the
borders appearing around any of your image links? This is an old way of
doing things, and I am not sure that it really looks that nice...

HTH,

Alex.

Hi,

I=92ve seen people ask everybody=92s opinion about their websites and =
the brutal
feedback =96 although pretty much always justified!!

Figured it was time to throw my site out to the wolfs =96
www.adhwebcreations.co.uk=20

Only been using divs/css for the past 6 or so months and still learning =
a
lot so no doubt I=92ve over complicated something. It=92s nothing =
exciting and
there=92s no flash or anything like that but thought I=92d draw on the
experience of the list.

Any recommendations welcome=85!

Kind regards
=A0
