You can send a multipart email and have plaintext displayed if HTML is
turned off!

What gets me is that clients like this are almost always using outlook, so
they KNOW how bad html emails are when they come through full of missing
images, and yet they still want to send them.
(oh - and phplist would be my suggestion)
