I Presume because he needs a 24 bit alpha channel png to do the anti-aliasing on the corner edge. I'm not quite sure why a alpha channel is needed at all though - it looks looks to be against solid...

Not tiles, literally just used in each of the corners of a banner to cut the corners and make them rounded. The solution you sent to me doesn't work on my IE6 Any ideas why?...
