Hi Nic,
When I had a problem like this it usually meant it's that time of a
month again when I need to reinstall (restore a backup) of my Windows
XP.
Never tried that myself but you can find some mini Linux images here:
http://www.livecdlist.com/
and maybe try to make a boot CD and delete it from there?
