FN-FORUM: Windows ME broadband

A friend of mine running Windows ME with a broadband connection through
Virgin (NTL) is getting and intermittent net connection. After a number of
minutes,no more than ten, the connection is lost. This happens whether or
not the computer is connected directly to the modem or via a Linksys router
although when the router is used her laptop (windows XP) has an uninterupted
net connection.

Virgin tech help say the problem is Windows ME. I always imagined the
protocols for connecting would be the same regrdless of operating system, so
my question is are they bullshiting us? and if so what could the problem be?
