Many moons ago I did some work which involved periodically going to the
US R&D labs of a large electronics multinational.
This was truly the Dilbert zone. There was even a cubicle with a "Scott
Adams" name tag. I never found out whether it was for real or not.
OTOH I did find a cardboard box carefully labelled "Empty Box", which
turned out to contain a piece of wire. But I digress.
There was the time one of "our" guys came back from a trip to the
"restroom" to say he'd heard snoring from the next cubicle.
Then I witnessed a Coke spillage. Quite amazing. Somebody spilt Coke
on her keyboard. She didn't clean it up, she got on the phone and a short
while later some guy showed up. Did *he* clean it up? No! *His* job was
to assess the situation... and call for a cleaner.
And then there was the departmental clown. We never found out what his
job was supposed to be. He'd come round, hang out with us for an hour or
so and then move on, probably to do the same with another development
team. Still, he had good stories, like the time he bypassed the interlock
on a microwave oven and nuked his own head to find out what it felt like...
