FN-FORUM: Rogue traders site advice
date posted 18th September 2007 12:02
Hi all=20
I am looking for some advice regards setting up a site about shoddy =
traders.
My family and I have just moved house into a nice 4 bed detached, and we
have forked out 14k on a new kitchen, the dilemma I have is that now the
tiler has finished the floor I can see that half the kitchen units and
drawers are misaligned, the dishwasher doesn't align next to the other
units, we have had other problems with work tops with dents that were
replaced that they tried to blame on my 18 month old son, etc
To summarise the kitchen people have come out and fixed a few things but =
the
edge of one of the units half covered a light switch, rather than move =
the
switch 2 inches to the right, they drilled into the unit placed an =
on/off
switch in there and chucked some muck into the metal box that recesses =
into
the wall, so if I have any probs later with the cabling I have to rip =
the
panels off to get to it, (he said that the kitchen is the nicest fitted =
job
he has seen)and is grumbling about having to come back out and fix what
needs doing.
I have spoken to a few friends who have all been in a similar position =
and I
am looking into the legality of having members of the public adding =
their
horror stories on a site,=20
A user would go to the site and add their town (if not already added) =
and
then add their own horror story, and name the company
I spoke to a colleague this morning who said that I need to place a
disclaimer on there stating that the views on the site are those by =
members
of the public and that the website does not substantiate or backup any
claims made by the public.
Could I get issued with a writ by doing something like this, by =
individual
companies, this isn=92t so much vengeance for the what the kitchen =
company
have put me and my family through this past 5 weeks, its just that if I =
knew
of a central source on the web of local companies with peoples =
experiences
then I can make a more rounded opinion before parting with such large =
sums
of money, after all, There are plenty of websites out there about rogue
holiday companies and holidays from hell etc,
Kind Regards
Mark Miles
