no doubt you are right abut users, but that's not why web
professionals climbed onboard the standards wagon and why we're
fighting for adherence to standards by browser manufacturers.
it's all about time and money.
you build a web site to web standards and the time taken to get it
looking similar in all browsers is much less than if you just let
Dreamweaver cobble together some table code.
if a user hits your site in their browser (be that IE or Safari on
their iPhone) they expect it to work, if it breaks, they don't blame
the browser or their hardware, they blame the site.
sites that work *everywhere* are the target, standards can be the key.
Usability, Accessibility and Web Standards are the bedrock on which
Profitability stands.
A good designer (in the all encompassing use of the term Design) will
make sure that any product they design is usable, accessible and has
as wide an appeal as possible.
(unless they are designing a left-handed widget for shortsighted men
with color-blindess, in which case they have a very specific target
market!)
