Depends on how they are used.
If they are used simply for hiding lots of keyword rich text that isn't to
be shown to visitors of the site (i.e. a user visiting the site can't make
that content visible in some way) and is just for baiting the search engines
then if you get enough complaints or google catch you then yes your site can
be black holed.
But if you are using them to make your site more dynamic, dropdown menus,
scrolling news, areas that display dynamically etc etc where the intent
isn't to trick Google into placing your site higher then there should be no
problem at all.
