Because when people get stuck on a specific requirement it is frequently
precisely *because* it is the wrong way of doing things. If people state
the wider goal when asking their question then there's the chance of
somebody coming up with an alternative that they've not considered yet.
On the other hand if the obvious way of doing things is not appropriate
then you should really save a bit of time all round by explaining why
you've rejected it.
In this case you did state the wider goal (good) but you really shouldn't
complain if people suggest doing it the obvious (and best) way.
Personally I'm a bit baffled by these clients of yours that want a website
developed but don't have internet access.
