RE: FN-FORUM: VirginMedia and email domains
date posted 9th November 2007 16:46
BT do let you do this, it's how I send email using 3 different domains.
However, you have to tell them first. Once they know you own the domains
they're happy. I just can't believe Virgin don't do this, it seems a fairly
standard thing to do.
I'll see what happens if my client uses the NTL SMTP server.
Thanks,
Craig

In my experience with BT even they don't let you do this in general.
Your best bet is to send the email from Outlook with the "Outgoing
Server" set to use the VirginMedia username/password and SMTP server.
That's how I normally set up my accounts - they still come from xyz
domain, but are sent using btinternet or whatever the hell it is.
Blocking domains from being used as outgoing servers is fairly
standard (to my understanding) with ISPs now, as it stops a lot of the
open-relay spam stuff from going on.
