Re: FN-FORUM: Your Kingdom for a Donkey.

I think that the problem is that anyone can build a web site.
Anyone can use the online site builder tools, frontpage or dreamweaver and
create a web site.
It may not be any good, usable, cross browser compliant or graphically
pleasant, but you can do it.
Typical converstaion is as follows.
Client: I want a web site, how much is it going to cost me?
Me: That really depends on what you require. What will the web site be used
for?
Client: Haven't really thought about it.
Me: For example, are you going to use it to communicate with exisiting /
potential customers or do you want to sell products via your site?
Client: Haven't really thought about it.
Me: Have you thought about what content you want on it?
Client: No
Me: Layout?
Client: No
Me: Colour scheme?
Client: No
Me: So why do you want a web site?
Client: I don't know really, everyone seems to have one nowadays.
Me: Ok, our prices start from £xxx, additional costs are added for example
eCommerce systems or databases etc
Client: Really!!!!! That much? Theres a guy down the road advertising web
design for £20.
Me: Perhaps you better go there then.
I think that clients don't really understand how much work goes into a well
designed and built web site.
They also don't understand that a decent web site can complement their
business and that a poorly designed site could put potential customers off.
Regards
Rob
