FN-FORUM: DLT Ultrium 2 Tape Drives
date posted 15th November 2007 15:49
Here's one for the hardware gurus.
Can tapes that have been written on an HP Storageworks Ultrium 460 be read
and restored using an inferior, cheaper model backup device.
My current client's drive has packed in and the current price for a
replacement is £1300-£1500 depending if you buy from HP or a resaler.
They've found a Certance (who?!?) CL 400H which retails for £650 and would
prefer to buy that, but I just want to confirm if it would be able to read
all the tapes created on the HP.
My gut instinct is no, but the client don't want to spend what doesn't
need to be.
