If it's vital I send you the mail, then I'd verify my address. You'll
have to make sure you whitelist automated systems e.g. mailing lists
which could take time if you have to check the mail incoming to see what
mails were what.
Personally I think you should just install some decent spam filtering, I
use spamassassin (with fuzzyocr plugin for image spam) + amavis on my
mail servers, and very little spam gets to my inbox, and then
thunderbird easily takes care of that once trained.
