No event log messages stick out and the network card is onboard the
motherboard so could possibly be a failure on the motherboard?

The old drive was a 40 GB SCSi while the new drive is a 160 GB SCSi but why
would it only fail when I've been scanning documents for a while?

Any event log messages (should be the first port of call for most
windows crashes) ?

Is the network card seated properly?

Was anything else moved whilst installing the drive, check everything is
seated correctly, check cables are plugged in correctly ?

Is there enough power for everything, the new drive might have pushed it
over the limit.
