As a host who sells mail, hosting and domains, I would sugest as many
have pointed out getting your domain from somone different to the
host. The only people it makes it harder for, are the hosts, as for
you, it will be better to control chages from host to host.
As for your specific question about who has your mail, and
web.. chances are very high that its the same company who has your
email, and web. even if they arn't call them, they will soon tell
you they don't do your mail.
