You walk into PC World, you come out with a laptop or desktop, for much cheapness, and it comes with a disk (or the means to create one) which allows you to fully re-install the OS. I know 'cos I always to it to get rid of all the pre-installed trail-ware.

No, there is. The difference being that it's much easier to upgrade
major parts of the hardware on a desktop and that if you do an OEM
version of the OS won't re-install because it's bound to a single
hardware configuration, which is one reason they can afford to sell it
so cheap- my current licenced copy of XP has got me through two
motherboards and processors and numerous other changes of setup. My OEM
installation died with my original motherboard.
