Yep, I'd say that's about the shape of it.
Basically, you're asking people to bookmark the site/page in their
[Social Network of choice] account, which will then (in theory) drive
other people to the page because if you like it, your friends will be
interested in the same thing.
So when all's said and done, you're allowing people to bookmark your
site, and thus drive more traffic in your direction. That's the
theory, anyway.
