RE: FN-FORUM: Oscommerce / STS - where is the download ??
date posted 13th April 2008 18:49
Hi John,
Welcome to the world of osCommerce!
This is the right page to be - it is the only system I know of that will
allow you to do what you are looking to do. The trick with osCommerce's
"addon" site is that as it is open-source software, people are free to post
updates, comments, etc, about versions of addon software that have been
written. As a result, it can look a little confusing, as updates might go on
for 1 issue, and not be rolled into the next version of the addon. Some
addon authors are good in the sense that they may release a new version of
their software, which says it includes the previously uploaded fixes -
other's don't...
What probably does not help is that the forums seem very busy, but that also
it takes time to get any response - I have posted 3 requests so far, and
none have not yielded anything yet - you are probably best posting here
first, chuckle!
You don't mention which version of osCommerce you have - I am assuming it is
the latest one (2.2 RC2)? STS is not one of the absolute easiest mods to
install, but only because there are a number of steps involved. Fortunately
these are documented in the download - I use the version under "STSv4.5.8
for all osC 2.2 versions" - this should give you a file called
STSv4.5.8_1_2.zip. It is a powerful system, as it gives you what are
effectively hooks into how everything is laid out on screen - provided you
run through the install instructions carefully, then you should be OK.
There is no SQL code that has to be run, but one thing I would point out:
this modification works better if you do it on a fresh site, and not one
that has been modified extensively. This is not to say it cannot be done -
either will work, as code is provided for both methods of installation.
However, the install on a fresh system means that you should theoretically
just have to copy files over the top of the basic install, and then just add
the module in via the admin part of osCommerce. Take a good look through the
instructions, so that you get to familiarise yourself with how it all works.
The install.html file is the best place to start with - this is within the
doc folder in the zip download.
Good luck - if I can be of any more help, please email on or off-list.
Alex.

Subject: FN-FORUM: Oscommerce / STS - where is the download ??
Hello
On seeing this posted a few weeks back, I want to try out the Simple
Template System for OS Commerce
All the stuff I have seen on google points me to this page:
http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,1524
Saying I can downlaod it from here
I cannot see how though or where? It just seems to be a load of text
documents?
Can anyone give me some clues, or an alternative source of information, I am
not a programer, and I want to be able to modify the look of OsCommerce, Zen
Cart or an alternative
Thanks in advance
Of course - if anyone has any better recommendations they are welcome
john
